Age Calculator

Find your exact age from your date of birth — in years, months and days — along with your total days lived and a countdown to your next birthday.

How it works

Using the Age calculator

1

Enter your date of birth

Optionally choose an 'as of' date; today is used by default.

2

We do the date math

The precise difference is computed, handling months and leap years.

3

See your age

You get years, months and days, plus totals and your next birthday.

An age calculator finds the exact difference between your date of birth and a chosen date, expressed in years, months and days. This one also reports your total days and weeks lived, the weekday you were born on, and a countdown to your next birthday. It handles months of differing lengths and leap years, so the result is exact rather than approximate.

Why age is not simple subtraction

Subtracting one date from another looks trivial and is not. Months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, so a difference expressed in months and days has to borrow from the right month rather than a fixed number. Years have 365 or 366 days, so the same calendar date can be a different number of days apart depending on where the leap years fall. And a birth on 29 February exists in only one year in four, which needs a rule of its own.

This calculator carries the units properly rather than dividing by an average month length. That is why the years, months and days it reports are exact, and why they can differ by a day or so from a tool that divides total days by 30.44.

How the age is calculated

  1. 1Enter your date of birth. Any valid past date. The calculator rejects dates that do not exist, such as 30 February.
  2. 2Choose an 'as of' date. This defaults to today, but you can set it to any date to find the age on that day — past or future.
  3. 3The units are carried. Days are borrowed from the preceding month and months from the preceding year, so the result is exact rather than averaged.
  4. 4Read the full breakdown. You get years, months and days, plus total days, weeks and hours, the weekday of birth, and the days remaining to your next birthday.

What the extra figures mean

The total days figure is the exact count of days between the two dates, and it is the most useful number here for anything that needs arithmetic — eligibility windows, anniversaries measured in days, or working out how long ago something happened. The weeks figure is that total divided by seven and rounded down. The hours figure assumes whole days of 24 hours, so it is a notional total rather than an exact duration.

  • Years, months and days is the conventional way to state age, and the one forms and documents ask for.
  • Total days is exact and is what you want for any calculation involving a cutoff or an interval.
  • The weekday of birth is a real detail — it is derived from the date itself, and you can check it against a calendar.
  • The next-birthday countdown depends on the convention used for 29 February births, so treat it as a guide rather than a legal fact.

Using this for forms and eligibility

Age calculators are most often reached when something official depends on it: an application form, an age limit for a scheme or examination, or a minimum age for a booking. In those cases the arithmetic here will be right, but the rule being applied may not be as simple as it looks.

Many organisations do not measure age on the day you ask — they measure it against a fixed cutoff date, so your eligibility can depend on a date other than today. Some count the completed years as of 1 January, others as of the application deadline. Check the published rule alongside the number this calculator gives you. The calculation is reliable; the rule is the part that varies.

The age calculator is the plain-arithmetic tool in this set, and it pairs naturally with the date-based numerology ones. These four use a birth date too.

The Mulank comes from the day of the month you were born — one number from the birth date the age calculator already knows. Mulank (Root Number) Calculator

The Lo Shu Grid spreads the whole birth date across a 3×3 square, which is the fullest use of the date this calculator processes. Lo Shu Grid Calculator

The numerology calculator derives all five core numbers, two of them from the birth date, if you want the date put to a different use. Numerology Calculator

A full birth chart needs the birth date and more, but it is the other calculation that starts from the same detail — plus your birth time and place. Birth Chart Calculator
